The National Hockey League was formed on November 2, 1917 as a result of a meeting held at the Windsor hotel in Montréal. Present at this meeting were team owners of the National Hockey Association. The acceptance of teams into this league will be known as the original six, being the first six teams to make up the National Hockey League. Toronto’s entry in the newly formed NHL for the 1917-1918 season played its first game on December 19, 1917 against the Montreal Wanders. Over the years, the Leafs won 13 Stanley Cups in its lifetime, but have failed to win again since 1967, and the last time the Leafs made the play offs was in the 2003-2004 season.

Ninety-three years later, Thursday October 7, 2010, the Toronto Maple Leafs play their season opener against the Montreal Canadiens and won! Two days later, the Leafs played the Ottawa Senators winning 5 - 1, and this Monday they played against the Penguins, beating the 2008-2009 Stanley Cup champions 4 - 3.

The Toronto Maple Leafs’ have not started off the season this well done in 10 years and we all will be glued to the television waiting for more fights and goals in the upcoming months. Although, sometimes just watching the games on the TV or over the Internet isn’t the same as going to the actual game. If you’ve never been to a Leaf game you are missing out!
